Unity appoints Samantha Losey in newly created Managing Partner role as it pivots towards a hybrid consultancy model

London based communications agency Unity has today announced the promotion of Samantha Losey, formerly head of consulting, to a newly created role of Managing Partner effective immediately.

Losey will join Founder & CEO Gerry Hopkinson and recently appointed FD, Madelaine Davis on the Unity board, with further appointments expected in the coming months.

The announcement follows the agency’s recent rebrand, which has seen a new brand identity, website and positioning focused on building a hybrid consultancy model rooted in purpose-led stakeholder engagement.

Commenting on the shift, CEO & Founder Gerry Hopkinson, said: “Today, brands need more than just communication to succeed, they need campaign-able ideas that cut through the noise, reaching every brand touchpoint to land their ambition, purpose and value.

This requires the careful blending of several elements; data-driven insights and behavioural science, rigorous strategic and creative thinking and world-class delivery and activation. This means we need a multidisciplinary approach with each skill-set working together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.”

Losey’s appointment will see her spearhead Unity’s transition from a progressive but historically consumer focused communications agency to a truly hybridised communications consultancy able to solve brands problems in completeness. She will also take responsibility for the agency’s performance, talent management and day-to-day operations.

Joining Unity in May 2018 to build, lead and grow the agency’s strategic consulting practice, having left Grayling as Head of Planning and Strategy, Samantha has built a practice which now represents over sixty percent of the agency’s fee income and has delivered award winning work for Lloyds, ADT and AXA PPP healthcare.

Since the agency completed a share buy-back in 2018, it has grown fee income by thirty percent and more than doubled pre-tax profit adding a number of significant new clients and staff whilst broadening its services to include; brand consulting, content marketing, employee engagement, CSR, public affairs and issues and crisis management.

Losey says of the move to Unity: “The truly exciting thing about Gerry is his willingness to be bold and brave, he consistently challenges convention and I love that he’s lost none of his appetite to do so. I always want to push every boundary and challenge every assumption, which is asking a lot of many business owners, but when I met him, I knew he shared my passion.

My career has been a pursuit of the highest level of strategic thinking married with faultless execution and an obsessive interest in audiences and I feel at Unity we can truly achieve the goal that is building excellence in thinking and doing whilst guaranteeing cohesion across all. The world has changed, we live in an era where brands can’t just say one thing and do another, they need to live and breathe an authentic, purpose-driven narrative, first time, every time.”

Commenting on the appointment, Gerry Hopkinson, Unity CEO & Founder, said: “After the share buyback, I felt it was sensible to take some time to restructure financially, and reflect on the direction of the business, and the marketplace. It became clear to me that old school approaches were in serious trouble and communications as a stand-alone offering was inadequate. Instead, clients require true consultants who can give them a fresh perspective and guide them through these uncertain times, but also creative practitioners who can execute as well as advise. This was the inspiration for our hybrid consulting model and one that we intend to build on in the future through investment, expansion and new product and service creation.

“Since Samantha has joined, our pitch rate has been near one hundred percent and the quality of our work has improved dramatically. She is exceptionally talented and brings a complimentary but distinct skillset to the table. More importantly, we see eye to eye on vision, culture and ambition. Together, we are looking forward to taking Unity to new heights by helping clients grow sustainable share-holder value through purpose. Whilst I’m very proud of where Unity has come from, I’m even prouder of where it’s going.”
