PizzaExpress: Pizza Portrait of Political Britian

At the time of the general election, Unity recommended that PizzaExpress connect with the mood of the moment. We created a cheeky story that saw the creation of a 'Pizza Portrait of Political Britain' - where the issues the public were talking about most over the dinner table were represented in pizza toppings (think dough balls symbolising the deficit, caviar representing class... you get the picture!)

We also created portraits of the three leaders on a pizza - based on what the public think they’re made of (cheese for Cameron, ‘keen as’ mustard for Clegg...) Cue blanket coverage across the national and consumer media.

Online communities lapped the story up, with everyone from John Prescott and David Milliband tweeting about the campaign, and driving people into PizzaExpress restaurants to watch the election action unfold.

As a consequence, the restaurants were jam packed on the night, whilst the tongue-in-cheek campaign creative spawned an OTS of more than 200 million.
